It has been a long time since there has been a post and the reason is we moved. Downsizing our home included selling the old house, remodeling the new one and then the actual move. We are just about settled and I can say it was an adventure.
The hardest part of this ordeal was moving our fur babies. Our younger dog, Lucky, is adapting great. He was a rescue that was on his own for a while so he adapts to new situations well. My senior dog, JR, is not so happy. He had never been on a leash and when we moved, the fence wasn’t ready for him. He was used to roaming our property as will, and now he only went out to use the “facilities” . This was very stressful on him.
We tried to make it easier and did not actually move the dogs until we had everything else moved with the exception of their beds and food bowls. (More on food bowls in the next post). They had to stay in the old house only a couple of days without us there at night. When we put them in the cars and took them to the new house they were happy to see, and probably smell, all the same furniture, bedding, food aromas, we had before. I wish I could have had everything put away so it wouldn’t have been so chaotic, but it wasn’t an option.
I have a batch of their favorite treats in the oven. They just love the Pumpkin / Peanut Butter Paw shaped treats. JR even sits right at the kitchen doorway while they bake.
The move also has given me more space to create the accessories and jackets/coats we make. Pictures coming soon once it is completely organized.
Hope while you are reading this, you are getting ready for a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
I have two Fur Babies and they are getting older. How to take care of them and make them comfortable is becoming a priority. There are many things that affect their being able to move around well and still feel like good protectors needed on the farm.
The first thing is steps. Since I live in a ranch style home, we don’t have to worry about this except for the front porch. There is only one step and they still manage it well. At some point I will be looking to put in a ramp for them. Thankfully I do have a handyman for a husband. I am too busy making FurBaby accessories or I probably could do it myself. If you are looking for ramps, I would think there would have to be a handyman in your area, who could build one for you. It probably would be a good idea to have a lightweight one that is portable if you take your pets with you in the car. I really can’t get mine to go anywhere as my “protectors” hate to leave the house.
I also know they need comfy beds. It is too tough for them to climb on the furniture (Hubby doesn’t like that) I used to buy pet beds from the big box stores. They wouldn’t really last as the filling never stayed full. Now that I can, I have made new ones for both dogs. The ones I make are overstuffed with fill. It took a little while for the two of them to get used to the bed being bigger. Now they are loving it! But as they age I know they will need more. I plan to add afoam egg crate for each one. I have to give a plug for my products - the one in the picture is a type that will be coming soon to my store.
I saw an article at rent.com on aging pets. The dog in the picture looks so much like mine, I had to stop and read what they had to say. I realized I had forgotten about raising the water and food bowls. I have a couple of ways I can do that myself, but I will probably look to the internet to find a good solution. Again, I may turn to the handyman for help on this one. I will keep you posted with pictures.
Would love to hear from my readers on what they are doing to make life a little easier for the Furry ones in their lives.
